The NORWEGIAN REFUGEE COUNCIL is a non-government, humanitarian organization with more than 65 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced persons. NRC advocates for their rights and assist amongst others with shelter, education, food distribution and information and counseling. The NORWEGIAN REFUGEE COUNCIL, NRC with headquarter in Oslo, Norway, has programs and country offices in twenty countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
NRC has been active in Liberia from 2003 providing Education, ICLA, GBV and after the influx of Ivorian refugees is having an emergency response program in Nimba & Grand Gedeh Counties.

Position: Education Project Coordinator
Duty Station: Monrovia (But extensive Field Travel to all Project Locations)
Report to: Project Manager Education
Line Management: Education Field Staff
Salary Scale: Within the range of $1000 to $1690 gross per month
Dependant on the recruitment of the right candidate there is a possibility that this post would be on fast track training to become National Project Manager of Education.
Main tasks and responsibilities are to coordinate, and ensure effective implementation of activities of the Education Program in Liberia.
Responsibilities
 Develop, implement and monitor the program according to the NRC mandate and objectives including financial management;
 Supervise, coordinate and build capacity of staff working in the Education program;
 Ensures that all NRC guidelines (Logistical and Financial) as well as Code of Conduct are being followed by all program staff;
 Ensure all project staff keep and manage updated record of YEP centers, teachers, youth enrolment, youth working groups and staff records;
 Support capacity building with Ministry of Education especially in the area of curriculum and policy development;
 Support future development of Education Project such as inclusion of Adult Education and Early Childhood Care and Education;
 Conduct regular Education staff meetings;
 In close collaboration with the Centre Assistant monitors the distribution of and ensures good utilization of education materials including tools distributed to the projects sites;
 Liaise with local authorities and partners at the county and district level;
 Provide professional input to the Program Manager in preparation of proposals, budgets and donor reports;
 Ensures a constructive cooperation/synergies with other NRC programs in the areas of operation;
 Support NRC Field Project Staff to fulfill their roles and responsibilities;


 Represent the Program Manager where necessary with Government, INGOs, UN and other strategic bodies;
 Travel regularly within the area of operation in order to coordinate projects developments to the field sites to monitor and supervise project development;
 Any other tasks as requested by the Project Manager;

Competencies
Essential
 Holds profession teaching qualifications, degree level preferred;
 Experience in program coordination and implementation;
 Experience of teacher training;
 Ability to make sound decisions consistent with position and follow up;
 Maintain confidentiality and use good judgment and sensitivity;
 Motivating and supportive of team members;
 Innovative and flexible with good communication skills;
 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines;
 Willingness to sometimes undertake after hours and weekend work;
 Able and willing to ride a motorbike.

Desirable
 Experience of working with Ministry bodies and in particular Ministry of Education;
 Experience of developing and implementing Adult Education programs;
 Experience of curriculum and policy development;
 French language.

Other duties;
Any other duties as may be assigned by the Project Manager.
The tasks and responsibilities might be changed during the contract period due to operational needs.
